Group Dynamics

Counseling

by swallacegs

When people open their lives to us we need to treat this gift with care and wisdom. We cannot let our ego of wanting to be the rescuer lead our actions but instead we need to know our limits, have a grasp of what we can offer, and be ready to refer those who need more than what we can offer. In this session we will look at some key skills and techniques to provide care.

Conflict in the Church

by swallacegs

Dealing with Conflict is seen by most people as an unpleasant and unhealth experience. Yet without the right kind of conflict there is no movement in churches just as with the wrong kind of conflict there is destructions. How do you deal with conflict? How do you view conflict?

Stewardship

by swallacegs

Stewardship is often seen as a burden and distasteful subject. The church often approaches this topic in a way that puts the "church", and especially the Stewardship Committee, at odds with the members. "They are trying to get my money and I am trying to keep it" is the perspective many have. Yet the church is not to be in the business of fundraising or in bill collecting for God. Instead we are to help people as they respond to God's call to be "good and faithful servants". Budgets, stewardship drives, financial comments should all be seen not from an institutional perspective but from a faith one.

From the movement's beginning in the 1900's it has touched many lives by offering the opportunity to work out one's faith personally, giving freedom to ask questions and to seek answers, valuing the gifts of all following and allowing them to serve where God has called them, and more.

Church History

by swallacegs

We share a faith with those from the past thousands of years. Our struggles, thoughts and needs have a powerful connect to theirs and we can find comfort, wisdom and strength by reaching out to that heritage. We may be focused on a different aspect of the faith right now but what others have seen, worked through and experiences gives us a foundation to stand on.
